The Brick Business
I am in the early stages of creating a body of work documenting Spain’s construction phenomenon, and the associated environmental and humanitarian issues. Using a language of surreal landscapes, I hope to show how the cultural fabric of Spain is being affected by the continued development. A Greenpeace Report in 2006 revealed that Spain’s coastal areas had three million scheduled new homes; 100,000 illegal buildings; 200,000 scheduled new hotel beds; 316 existing golf courses; 112 marinas, and 90 cases of urban corruption. And all this in spite of tourism steadily declining over the last six years.
